In a stunning display of skill and determination, Sharks playmaker Nicho Hynes has made a bold statement for a State of Origin comeback after leading his team to a resounding 40-0 victory over the Raiders.
Hynes, who has silenced his critics throughout the 2024 season, put on a masterclass performance, scoring a try, setting up two more, breaking tackles with ease, and delivering a season-best 456 kicking meters.
Despite some previous concerns about his defense, Hynes showcased his all-round abilities by making 25 tackles and missing just one.
With the upcoming State of Origin series looming, new Blues coach Michael Maguire has a tough decision to make regarding the five-eighth position, but many believe that Hynes has proven himself worthy of a chance in the coveted No.6 jersey.
After being dropped by Brad Fittler last year following a less-than-ideal performance, Hynes bounced back and worked hard to regain his form.
Now, with the Sharks sitting comfortably atop the NRL ladder and scoring an impressive 152 points in their last four games, Hynes is facing stiff competition from players like Cody Walker and Jahrome Luai for the five-eighth spot.
However, his current form and stellar performances have made him the standout choice for the Blues, with coach Craig Fitzgibbon throwing his support behind Hynes for a return to the sky blue jersey.
