The Newcastle Knights put up a valiant effort but were ultimately defeated by the Melbourne Storm in a thrilling showdown at AAMI Park.

Despite tries from Dylan Lucas and debutant Fletcher Sharpe, the Knights fell short in a 36-28 loss.

It was a back-and-forth battle in the Victorian capital, with the Knights showing great resilience in defense and even taking the lead late in the first half.

However, the Storm struck back quickly with two quick tries to edge ahead at halftime.

A late surge in the second half kept the game interesting, but the Storm managed to hold on for the win in a nail-biting encounter.

Next up for the Knights is a clash with the Penrith Panthers at home, promising to be a Sunday afternoon special to close out Beanie for Brain Cancer Round.

Fans can expect another intense matchup as the Knights look to bounce back and secure a well-deserved victory.
