Newcastle extend Holbrook after grand final

Newcastle fell 19-18 to the Sydney Roosters in this year's grand final, but the run to the decider has secured coach Justin Holbrook a longer stay.

The Knights have extended the 50-year-old's contract through the end of 2030. His previous deal ran through 2028, and the extension adds two seasons.

Holbrook arrived 12 months ago after Newcastle finished with the wooden spoon in 2025. The former Gold Coast and St Helens coach then guided the club to its first grand final in 25 years.

Knights football director Chris James praised Holbrook's impact and the environment he created:

"Justin has done an incredible job since arriving at the start of this season,"

"He has built an environment where the players are happy, they enjoy coming to work, and every single day they walk through the door wanting to get better.

"That culture is the foundation of everything this group achieved in reaching the first grand final in 25 years. Just as importantly, Justin has reconnected this team with the community.

"Securing Justin until 2030 means we can keep building on that connection, and we're incredibly proud to have him leading the team."
