Tanner Stowers-Smith will follow his great-grandfather Pat Smith into the Kiwis, earning his first Test selection for New Zealand's World Cup match against the Cooks Islands.
Smith, a Canterbury great, played 36 times for the Kiwis from 1947 to 1949, including 10 Tests as captain.
Stowers-Smith, a Christchurch product, made 21 appearances for the Warriors this season, with 18 from the bench.
He and fellow 22-year-old Warriors forward Jacob Laban are named on the interchange bench for Sunday's 6.05pm match at One New Zealand Stadium in Christchurch.
Laban, born in Samoa and raised in Wellington, was voted the Warriors' players' player of the year after missing one of their 26 NRL games.
Coach Stacey Jones has made six changes after New Zealand's 22-24 World Cup-opening defeat by the Kangaroos.
Keano Kini replaces injured fullback Kalyn Ponga, while Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad returns in the centres for debutant Dane Gagai.
Joseph Tapine moves to prop for Moses Leota, and Scott Sorensen and Xavier Willison start in the second row instead of Isaiah Papali'i and Briton Nikora.
Erin Clark takes the number 13 jersey; captain James Fisher-Harris and hooker Jeremy Marshall-King are the only starting forwards retained.
The bench also includes Te Maire Martin, Leo Thompson, Papali'i and Nikora. Sorensen last played for New Zealand against Papua New Guinea in the 2024 Pacific Championships.
