New Warrior Morgan Gannon Discusses NRL Move

Forward Morgan Gannon, one of the four new signings by the New Zealand Warriors for the 2026 season, has shared insights into his decision to transition from the Super League to the NRL. Gannon, a promising talent in England, joins the growing list of Super League forwards making the switch to Australia's NRL, following notable players like James Graham and Sam Burgess. He secured a three-year contract with the Warriors in April.

At just 22 years old, Gannon is currently in his first pre-season with the Warriors, revealing that a significant motivator for his move was the desire to challenge himself and step out of his comfort zone by playing in a foreign country and competition.

Having previously played at the Leeds Rhinos under Sam Burgess, Gannon is versatile, capable of playing both lock and back row positions. He reflected on his decision, stating, "It was a decision of do I stay in my comfort zone or do I take a shot in the dark and test myself. I think, ultimately, that was what I wanted to do and I'm not regretting it."

Identifying as a second rower, Gannon places a strong emphasis on defense. He remarked, "Defensively, that comes first. I think I'm a hard worker. There's a saying, there's tough, then there's English tough, so I like to think I'm part of that."
