BREAKING: NSW Rugby League has announced that Matt King will succeed Laurie Daley as the head coach of the Blues starting next year.
Although the NSWRL has yet to disclose the specifics of this appointment, reports suggest that King has agreed to a two-year contract with the Blues, even with Panthers coach Ivan Cleary available from 2028.
Daley's decision to step down follows a successful year where he led the Blues to a 2-1 series win against Queensland.
On Tuesday morning, NSWRL Chief Executive Dave Trodden mentioned that King's elevation is part of a "succession plan," having joined the Blues as an assistant coach in 2024.
King's promotion to senior assistant coach occurred last year, during which he played a key role in two series victories.
"Matt has served a long apprenticeship in the game as an assistant coach and has learned off some of the sharpest minds in rugby league," Trodden remarked.
