Competition launched to help name PNG's first NRL team

As anticipation builds for Papua New Guinea's inaugural entry into the NRL slated for 2028, the search for a name for the new team has officially begun.

This marks another milestone along the journey to the 2028 season, with the team's logo and colors to be announced in due course.

On Wednesday, a launch event took place at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby, signaling the start of the naming competition.

Prime Minister James Marape, alongside PNG Bid chief Andrew Hill, spoke at the event.

Mr. Marape emphasized that the name will be determined by the people of Papua New Guinea. However, he noted that certain guidelines must be observed, reflecting the shared history and values between Australia and PNG, particularly as PNG approaches the celebration of its 50th independence anniversary on September 16.
