Munster's Origin Win Eludes Melbourne

Cameron Munster's connection to Queensland's State of Origin success is intriguing, especially considering he hasn't secured a victory in Melbourne, his adopted home.

Throughout ten series with the Maroons, the MCG remains the only venue where Munster has encountered defeat. He has emerged victorious in battles across Sydney and the invigorating atmosphere of Lang Park.

Winning in various cities like Adelaide and Perth has marked his career, showcasing Origin as it travels to capture new fans.

Yet, Melbourne poses a challenge in his otherwise illustrious record. With only one game played at the MCG ending in loss, Munster has one last opportunity to change that narrative in the upcoming Origin II.

Should Queensland manage to salvage a series hanging in the balance, you can bet Munster will be central to their efforts, as he has been for virtually every Maroons victory since his entry into the series nearly ten years ago.

Reflecting back to that memorable night in 2017, Munster, sporting a summer haircut, took his first significant steps into the Origin spotlight.

The Maroons returned to Brisbane for a decisive match without their star, Johnathan Thurston, after his pivotal contributions in Game II. At the suggestion of Cameron Smith, Queensland's coach Kevin Walters decided to give Munster a chance.

Leading up to the game, pressure mounted as Munster struggled in training, earning Smith's candid description of him as "hopeless."

However, when it truly counted, Munster delivered a remarkable performance, assisting in two tries to seal a 22-6 victory, marking one of the greatest debuts in Origin history and becoming Smith's favorite match from his 42-game career with the state.
