Former dual-code star Mat Rogers has expressed his belief that Mitchell Moses outshines Nathan Cleary as a halfback ahead of the upcoming Ashes tour.
Both Moses and Cleary are part of the 24-man squad heading to the Ashes, where the Kangaroos will face England in their first Test in just over two weeks.
Cameron Munster from the Melbourne Storm is anticipated to start at five-eighth, creating a competitive environment for the number seven jersey among Cleary, Moses, and North Queensland Cowboys' Tom Dearden.
Despite the competition, Cleary and Moses emerge as the clear front runners. Speaking on SEN1170 radio, Rogers articulated his view that Moses's skills in both running and kicking make him the superior halfback, alongside his performance at the elite level.
"I'm a huge Nathan Cleary fan, I'm not a Nathan Cleary hater by any stretch, I just think Mitchell Moses is a better halfback than him," Rogers stated during the broadcast.
"I think he has a better kicking game, I think he has a better running game and I just think he is the best player running around at the moment."
Rogers continued to highlight Moses's contributions at the New South Wales level, noting that he has excelled despite playing for a struggling club. "He gets a coach in there that makes some big calls, moves some people on, puts some people around him that can get a job done and we see the way he played at the back-end of the year. He is a freak," Rogers emphasized.
