NRL icon Mal Meninga has downplayed speculation regarding internal conflicts at the Perth Bears, clarifying that such issues were not even broached during the club's board meeting on Friday.
This week, the NRL road show has touched down in Perth, culminating in a Saturday double header at Optus Stadium, featuring South Sydney battling the Canberra Raiders, followed by the Cronulla Sharks facing the Sydney Roosters.
As the Perth Bears prepare to join the competition next year under Meninga's seasoned leadership, they have utilized this week to launch their merchandise and unveil their new mascot, Kodi.
However, the excitement surrounding the events has been somewhat overshadowed by rumors of discord, particularly involving football boss David Sharpe and CEO Anthony De Ceglie.
Sharpe's management style has reportedly upset some, resulting in tension within the organization.
Having played a crucial role in bringing Sharpe to the Bears, Meninga addressed the rumors during a media session on Friday.
"Everything's going well. We just had a board meeting this morning. It wasn't even discussed," Meninga stated.
"I don't know how this got out, or why it's got out. I guess because the double header is in Perth, and all of a sudden we're trying to find some negativity with it all."
"You look at every week, the Dragons, they've gone through some turmoil. The Broncos have gone through turmoil. Manly's gone through turmoil. I just think it's the turn, because we've got a double header over here."
