Melbourne Storm chase Bai amid swap talks

Melbourne Storm bosses make telling confession amid no-try controversy in NRL grand final

Melbourne Storm may reunite with the Bai family, with 19-year-old Cooper reportedly set to leave the Gold Coast Titans for the club.

The Daily Telegraph reports Cooper will turn down a multi-million-dollar offer from the PNG Chiefs and sign with the Storm, coached by Craig Bellamy.

His father, Marcus Bai, now sits on the PNG Chiefs board and previously played 144 matches for Melbourne, scoring 70 tries.

Cooper's camp is seeking an immediate release so he can join the Storm in 2027, but the Titans are expected to seek a player in return.

Queensland Maroons forward Trent Loiero and Brisbane-raised centre Jack Howarth have been mentioned as possible swap options.

Howarth attracted interest from the Eels during the 2026 NRL season, but Melbourne declined to release him.

Cooper remains contracted to the Titans through the end of the 2027 NRL season unless the clubs reach an agreement.
