Melbourne Back Targeted by Perth Bears

A utility back from Melbourne Storm has emerged as a potential target for the NRL's newest team, the Perth Bears, as they begin to assemble their inaugural roster.

With no official signings made yet, the Perth Bears are actively pursuing several players in hopes of adding multiple individuals to their squad by Christmas. So far, they've shown interest in players like Hugo Savala, Harry Grant, Scott Sorensen, and Selwyn Cobbo.

According to Brent Read from News Corp on the Code NRL podcast, Nick Meaney is now on the Bears' radar. Meaney, who is out of contract at the conclusion of the 2026 NRL season, has had the freedom to negotiate with other teams since November 1, opening up the possibility of a move to Western Australia in the next year.

At 28 years old, Meaney brings versatility and experience, having played 159 NRL matches, with 94 of those for the Melbourne Storm. His multi-role capability adds value to his appeal.

The Bears' reported interest in Meaney follows their offer of a five-year contract valued at around $6 million-equating to $1.2 million per season-to Gold Coast Titans player Jayden Campbell.
