McInnes Approaches New Contract Negotiations
Cameron McInnes, the captain of the Cronulla Sharks, has acknowledged that his tenure in the Shire is likely nearing its conclusion.
"Hopefully in the next few weeks we'll get [a new deal] sorted," he shared with the publication.
"All I know is I'm keen to keep playing for a while longer."
McInnes is mindful of the rise of Jesse Colquhoun, who stepped in for him after his ACL injury late last year, which could influence the club's decisions.
"Oh, I'd love to stay here, but I'm also aware of all circumstances with the club," he commented.
Colquhoun recently secured a four-year extension with the Sharks following a challenging start to his career plagued by injuries.
"[His growth] is probably why it's hard for me to get a contract here," McInnes joked.
"There's an old saying... 'if you don't give your spot up, they can never sign someone in your place.'
As negotiations loom, McInnes remains hopeful but realistic about his future with the team.
The Sharks will need to carefully consider their options as they move forward in the upcoming weeks.
