Wests Tigers center Taylan May has reportedly declined a contract offer from the club. After a hiatus from the sport, he returned to the NRL mid-year on a train and trial deal with the Tigers, following his time with the Penrith Panthers.
The 24-year-old has made a strong impression since his return, quickly establishing himself as a key player for coach Benji Marshall and the team. His outstanding performance led the Tigers to present him with a three-year extension that would run through to the end of 2028, with an estimated value of around $500,000 annually.
Initially, May had chosen to reject interest from the South Sydney Rabbitohs to join the Tigers, where his brother Terrell May also plays as a starting prop. However, The Sydney Morning Herald reports that May has opted to turn down the contract extension from the Tigers in favor of seeking a shorter-term agreement.
