Maori Standouts: Blair Praises Storm's Young Recruits

Adam Blair, coach of the Maori All Stars, says two recent Melbourne Storm recruits have stood out at training ahead of Sunday's match.

"A big part of this game is about trying to find some of the next superstars," he said.

"I've been really impressed with young Manaia Waitere from the Storm."

"He's a young kid, only played one game at the Canberra Raiders previously."

"Obviously there's Trent Toelau here who was at Panthers and is at the Storm now."

"This game gives opportunities for guys like that to be able to showcase their talent to everyone watching rugby league."

Blair told 2GB Radio that both Waitere and Toelau have enjoyed a productive week on the paddock.

Although the All Stars format faces questions about its future, it still offers a valuable stage for up-and-coming players.

Both recruits arrived at the Storm during the off-season and, by all accounts, have impressed coaches and teammates in training sessions.

Veteran halfback Jahrome Hughes also highlighted their form on his One, Six, Seven podcast alongside Ryan Papenhuyzen and Cameron Munster.

With Papenhuyzen seemingly stepping away from the game, Melbourne look likely to hand the fullback role to Sua Fa'alogo in 2026.

The upcoming weekend clash will be a chance for selectors and fans to see if Waitere and Toelau can convert training promise into matchday performance.
