Kurt Mann, a debutant for the Maroons in the State of Origin series, is recognized as one of the NRL's toughest players, a reputation rooted in his early experiences.

Notably, he once played a rugby league match and completed a cross-country event with turmeric powder stuffed up his nose.

Reports indicate that Mann is set to make his State of Origin debut coming off the interchange bench in the second match of the series in Perth.

Hailing from Winton in Central West Queensland, Mann attended St Brendan's College in Yeppoon, where he was coached by Terry Hansen, known for his effective training methods.

Hansen was notorious for carrying a can of turmeric powder, convinced of its healing properties.

Mann's resilience was tested during his time in grade 11 when he incurred a nose injury while playing for St Brendan's A side.

This toughness, honed from his junior days, has culminated in his selection for the prestigious State of Origin series.
