Mal's Exit: International League Eyes Origin Glory

Mal's legacy: International game ready to rival Origin

Mal Meninga has stepped down as Kangaroos coach after eight years, convinced that international rugby league is poised to rival the State of Origin.

According to nrl.com.au, Meninga took on the role in 2016 when the Kiwis were ranked No.

1, following their victories in the 2014 Four Nations and 2015 ANZAC Test.

During his tenure, Meninga coached Australia in 28 Tests, leading the Kangaroos to World Cup victories in 2017 and 2022, with just three losses-against New Zealand in 2019 and 2023, and Tonga in 2019.

The newly appointed Perth Bears coach is passing the coaching responsibilities ahead of the upcoming Ashes series and next year's World Cup.

Meninga believes that at least five nations-Australia, England, New Zealand, Samoa, and Tonga-are now strong contenders for the title.
