Michael Maguire's long-term coaching prospects are once again under scrutiny as discussions about his coaching techniques persist.
The Broncos experienced an outstanding 2025 season, clinching the premiership thanks to an astonishing finish, highlighted by Reece Walsh's remarkable performance.
For Maguire, who led the New South Wales Blues to a series victory in 2024 before joining the Broncos and achieving immediate success, this was a validation of his coaching abilities. However, similar to his stints with the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Wests Tigers, his coaching style is facing ongoing criticism.
While silence settled after the premiership win, former forward Mark Geyer shared on 2GB Radio that whispers of discontent have surfaced at Red Hill.
"What I do keep hearing a lot is Madge's name being mentioned ... I'm not gonna say [in] unfriendly [ways], but not in positive ways," Geyer remarked on 2GB's The Continuous Call Team.
"That makes me think that someone like Michael Maguire has a shelf life as a coach in the NRL of around three years, because he is so intense.
"Then it is time for him to take his powers and move on somewhere else that needs his help."
At the core of the concerns surrounding Maguire are his 'tough' training methods, which have not resonated well with all players.
Geyer advised that the Broncos should address these player grievances before they escalate into larger issues.
