Maguire Reveals Plans for Halfback Role as Three-Way Race Heats Up
The Brisbane Broncos are well-equipped with a plethora of young talents, particularly in the halfback position.
Coach Michael Maguire has expressed his confidence in emerging playmaker Coby Black despite recent shifts in the halfback lineup and the upcoming addition of Jonah Pezet.
Maguire indicated that although the competition for the No.7 jersey is intensifying, the 19-year-old Black remains a vital part of the club's future plans.
"I haven't given up on Coby at all," Maguire told Code Sports.
"I have two young halves who are hungry to come in and get better… they are the future."
In addition, the Broncos have secured North Queensland Cowboys halfback Tom Duffy on a one-year contract, creating further depth alongside Black as Maguire aims to strengthen the squad behind Adam Reynolds, whose future at the club is uncertain beyond 2026.
Pezet is expected to join the Broncos in 2027, adding even more competition for the playmaking position.
