Brisbane Broncos coach Michael Maguire has commented on star fullback Reece Walsh liking a social media post that criticized the club's handling of Adam Reynolds' non-selection, stating it's a different scenario compared to forward Martin Taupau's departure from the club in 2025.
Maguire acknowledged speaking with Walsh about the situation but kept the details of their discussion private.
"I spoke to Reece this morning and we went through it," Maguire shared with the media in anticipation of the 2025 grand final rematch against the Storm on Thursday night at Suncorp Stadium.
"I understand there's a like there on social media but we've had the conversation and he realizes that things move quickly on social media … but different circumstances (compared with Taupau)."
Maguire chose not to elaborate on the differences but emphasized that both he and Walsh are focused on moving forward.
"Everyone's got emotion around these scenarios but we're very transparent, Reece loves Reyno, we all do but sometimes things like that unfortunately happen," he said.
Initially thought to have made the decision himself not to play in 2026, Reynolds clarified on Tuesday that he is retiring immediately-something Maguire confirmed.
"(Adam) basically said to me, I think it's time Madge and I respect that," Maguire remarked.
"We'd love to see him out there… but he ended up calling it a day.
"In my eyes, I was going to give him every opportunity to try and get there but it came to a point on Monday night where he said 'I'm done'."
The Broncos will face the Storm in NRL Round 26 on Thursday night, marking their last home match for 2026.
It will also be superstar Payne Haas' final game at Suncorp Stadium as a Broncos player.
