Wigan Warriors overcame their Las Vegas jetlag to secure a convincing victory over Huddersfield Giants, who are still in search of their first Super League win of the season.
Despite Huddersfield being the better team in the first half and taking the lead with three tries, Wigan managed to stay in touch thanks to scores from Liam Farrell and Zach Eckersley.
The Giants, who had previously led at halftime in their matches before ultimately losing, were unable to maintain their lead as Wigan stepped up their game in the second half.
The Warriors, currently in fourth place, showed their resilience as Farrell scored another try and the team went on to score five more in the second half.
Liam Marshall, Bevan French, Jake Wardle, Jai Field, and Kruise Leeming all contributed to Wigan's impressive display.
The result sees Wigan closing in on the early leaders Hull KR, showcasing their potential to challenge for the top spot in the league.
Despite the victory, Wigan coach Adrian Lam noted the challenges his team faced following their trip to Las Vegas, saying, "It took 15 minutes to get into the game and then it took the entire length of the first half to really gel." However, he praised his players for their second-half performance, acknowledging, "I was really happy with the second-half performance, the ability to hold the Giants to no points in the second half."
On the other hand, Huddersfield coach Ian Watson expressed his disappointment with his team's inability to maintain their first-half lead, stating, "We spoke at halftime about doing more of the same, but we didn't and Wigan showed their class." The defeat leaves the Giants still without a win this season, highlighting the work that needs to be done to turn their fortunes around in future matches.
