Knights' spirit not enough against Penrith Panthers

Spirited Knights fall short to Penrith

The Newcastle Knights have suffered a defeat against the defending premiers Penrith in a tough 22-14 battle at BlueBet Stadium.

Despite a valiant effort from the Knights, the Panthers were able to close the gap on the table-topping Storm by just two points.

The Panthers, led by stars like Nathan Cleary, Isaah Yeo, and Brian To'o, managed to hold off the Knights in a match that saw Jacob Saifiti sidelined in the warm-up.

The Knights showed their mettle early on when prop Daniel Saifiti powered over for a try, setting the tone for a physical contest.

However, the Panthers quickly responded with a try from Casey McLean, orchestrated by a slick combination of Matt Eisenhuth, Cleary, and Luai.

A long-range effort from Izack Tago extended Penrith's lead, with Cleary's conversion adding to the tally.

Despite a close call where Tago was denied a potential try, the Panthers maintained their lead going into halftime with a penalty goal from Cleary.

The Knights fought on bravely in the second half, but the Panthers' defense held firm to secure the victory.

In the end, the Knights may have fallen short, but they showed plenty of heart and determination in their clash with the reigning champions.

As the season progresses, the Knights will look to bounce back and continue their push up the ladder.
