The Newcastle Knights have powered their way to a commanding victory in the NRLW trial match against the Canberra Raiders, triumphing 28-8 in Wagga Wagga.

The clash at McDonalds Park was a real barnburner, with the Knights getting off to a cracking start that would have surely put a smile on new coach Ben Jeffries' dial.

With a nearly full-strength lineup, the Knights faced a tough and physical Raiders side in the first half.

The two teams were like a couple of heavyweight contenders, trading blows in the early stages of the contest.

But it was the Knights who landed the first punch, as Abigail Roache bulldozed her way over the line to score the opening try.

As the game progressed into the second quarter, the Knights kicked into high gear and started to stamp their authority on proceedings.

They looked every bit the championship-winning team of years past, putting on a display of skill and tenacity that had the crowd on their feet.

Jesse Southwell pulled the strings with some crafty play, setting up Shanice Parker for a scintillating try down the short side.

The Knights' performance was a testament to their hard work and dedication in the pre-season.

With this dominant victory under their belts, they have laid down a marker for the upcoming NRLW season.

Fans of the red and blue can be confident that their team is primed and ready to tackle whatever challenges come their way on the rugby league battlefield.
