Knights Maintain Perfect Start, Beat Warriors 32-22

NSW Cup Match Report: Knights prevail with late flurry

The Newcastle Knights maintained their unbeaten season with a 32-22 win over the Warriors at McDonald Jones Stadium.

The first half was chaotic, with both teams committing 13 errors, but the Knights asserted themselves after halftime, overpowering last year's NSW Cup champions.

The Warriors opened the scoring early when hooker Makaia Tafua capitalized on a quick play-the-ball to dash over the line, putting them up 6-0 after Jett Cleary's conversion.

Moments later, halfback Cleary's quick thinking resulted in more points, as his cut-out pass found winger Haizyn Mellars, who scored with ease, extending the Warriors' lead.

The Knights responded after earning a penalty, with halfback Matthew Hunter setting up center Kyle McCarthy, who sliced through the defense to score, leveling the match at 10-all.

Just before halftime, De Courcey scored again, stepping past two defenders, and with Hunter's conversion, the Knights led 16-10 at the break.

Carrying their momentum into the second half, a kick from Mitch Henderson allowed McCarthy to assist Tamakaimoana Whareaorere, who scored to extend their lead to 22-10.
