The Newcastle Knights have made a tough decision regarding NRLW star Tamika Upton, granting her release from her contract due to personal and family circumstances.

Upton, who still had three years left on her deal, had expressed a desire to return to Queensland for compassionate reasons.

Peter Parr, the Knights' director of football, expressed the club's disappointment in Upton's departure but also wished her well for the future.

Parr acknowledged Upton's significant contributions to the NRLW team over the years, noting her undeniable impact on their success.

"Tamika has been a real game-changer for us in the NRLW," Parr said in a statement.

"Although it's tough to see her go, she leaves behind a legacy of unforgettable moments for the community.

We'll always be grateful for her time here and we wish her nothing but the best moving forward."
