Knights fans deserve better, decisions keep getting worse and THE greatest round ever?: 20 Thoughts from Round 25

If you ever needed proof that rugby league is the greatest game of all, Round 25 provided multiple such examples!

Friday night delivered the most exhilarating finish I've witnessed in my (sigh) almighty 40 years.

Just when you thought you had seen everything, the Tigers pulled off one of the decade's best tries, only for the Cowboys to spoil the celebration.

In simple terms, it was an incredible weekend of rugby, both on and off the field.

Here are 20 reflections on the remarkable (in a good way) Round 25 of NRL action:

1. With just two wins this season and sitting second last on the ladder, over 25,000 Newcastle fans showed up on Sunday afternoon, despite the team suffering a 46-12 defeat to the dominant Broncos. Regardless of the situation, Knights supporters remain faithful, and they deserve better. Leo Thompson was probably their standout player, yet he's leaving for the Bulldogs next year. While significant injuries have impacted their performance, it's always something. A huge shout-out to the fans.

2. Just last week, I claimed I had witnessed the worst officiating decision ever. As it turns out, I was mistaken. During Friday night's game, a Dogs player threw the ball at a Storm player and was granted a penalty due to a Storm player's slight head tap. Later in the same match, Cameron Munster reacted poorly and was also awarded a penalty. This sets a terrible precedent for rewarding escalations over minor contacts. The officiating crew will likely want to review that one.
