The nib Newcastle Knights began strong but ultimately fell short, losing 46-16 to the Brisbane Broncos at McDonald Jones Stadium, as reported by newcastleknights.com.au.
The match took place in ideal conditions, and the Knights thrilled the sold-out crowd by jumping to a 16-4 lead early on. However, the Broncos quickly regained their momentum and mounted a comeback.
As fans filled the stadium for one of two exciting matches, the Knights dominated the initial stages. Just nine minutes into the game, Sheridan Gallagher scored the opener, capitalizing on a stunning pass from Botille Vette-Welsh.
Six minutes later, Tiana Davison pushed the Knights' lead to 10-0, breaking through a gap close to the line.
Mele Hufanga and Georgia Roche then exchanged tries, but the Broncos soon took control. Shalom Sauaso and Kerri Johnson each added points to narrow the gap to just two, before Hayley Maddick scored right before halftime, giving Brisbane the lead.
The second half continued in a similar vein, with Lauren Dam, Tamika Upton, Romy Teitzel, Julia Robinson, and Maddick all finding the try line, as the game slipped further away from the Knights.
