Knights Face Key Player Losses Amid Finals Hopes Dwindling

Newcastle Knights players Dom Young and Tyson Frizell are both facing time off the field after receiving Grade 2 dangerous contact charges during their 44-24 defeat at home against Manly.

Young was sin binned late in the first half for a hip-drop tackle on Tolu Koula near the Manly try line and was subsequently placed on report.

Frizell was also reported just moments later for another hip-drop tackle, this one on Tom Trbojevic.

Both players are set to receive one-match suspensions with an early guilty plea, which could extend to two matches if they dispute the charges unsuccessfully at the NRL judiciary.

Given that Newcastle has a bye in Round 27, it's likely that Young and Frizell will not play again until Week 1 of the NRL finals.

Additionally, Knights forward Jermaine McEwen has been charged with a Grade 1 high tackle on Clayton Faulalo and faces a $3,000 fine for an early guilty plea.

The disappointing 20-point loss to Manly effectively ends Newcastle's chances for a top-four finish and puts their hopes for a home final in jeopardy, especially with a tough away game against the Warriors in Auckland in Round 26.
