Knights CEO Peter Parr has acknowledged the difficulty of retaining star fullback Kalyn Ponga beyond his current contract, which runs until 2027.
Despite Ponga's commitment to the Newcastle Knights, Parr hinted that the landscape may shift with the addition of new teams in the league, making Ponga a potential target for franchises like the Perth Bears.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Parr stated, "There's no doubt with the introduction of the new teams that Kalyn would be a target, especially for a Perth [Bears] team." He emphasized Ponga's value as a "great marquee signing for a new franchise," yet remained uncertain about the future.
While Parr was cautious about confirming Ponga's long-term dedication post-2027, he asserted that the club would not permit an early exit from his contract.
