In a thrilling Round 2 clash at Belmore Sports Ground, the nib Newcastle Knights NRLW side suffered a 31-20 defeat at the hands of the North Queensland Cowboys.
Despite holding an eight-point lead in the second half, the Knights couldn't hold off the Cowboys' late surge, with the opposition scoring four tries and a field goal in the final 15 minutes.
This loss marked the first defeat of the campaign for the Knights' NRLW side, who will now be seeking redemption in their upcoming match against Parramatta, in a highly anticipated Grand Final rematch.
The game kicked off as part of an NRLW double header, with the Knights showing early promise by scoring the first points within minutes.
It was Caitlan Johnston's impressive line-break that set up Sheridan Gallagher for a try in the corner, marking Gallagher's first-ever try in the NRLW competition.
