Shaun Kenny-Dowall will return to the Sydney Roosters in 2027 as the club's Academy and Harold Matthews head coach.
He confirmed the appointment on LinkedIn after working as a pathways and development coach in the Hunter.
Kenny-Dowall coached at the Newcastle Knights last season, then helped them defeat the Roosters 22-0 in this year's Harold Matthews Grand Final.
His move to Bondi follows reports that Trent Robinson and the club were reshaping their coaching staff after Matt King joined the NSW Blues and Michael Cheika joined the NSW Waratahs.
Kenny-Dowall finished his playing career with Hull KR in 2023, having made 93 Super League appearances and 277 NRL appearances for the Roosters and Knights.
He scored a crucial try against Manly in the Roosters' 2013 Grand Final victory.
For New Zealand, he played 21 international matches from 2007 to 2016 and scored nine Test tries.
