Canterbury Bulldogs dismiss Walker-Burton trade rumours

Roosters coach Trent Robinson said Sam Walker's future with the club was settled after the halfback declined to sign through 2028.

"No-one's on a lifelong contract. He's signed until the end of next year," Robinson said during Channel 7's Rugby League World Cup commentary.

Asked whether Walker could still re-sign beyond 2027, Robinson replied: "No…it is done there, Sam's moved on and we've moved on. There is no way to get a deal done after this."

Reports have linked the premiership-winning halfback with Canterbury, but Bulldogs general manager Phil Gould ruled out trading Matt Burton for Walker.

Gould said on X there would be no discussions about a swap.

Burton has permission to speak with rival NRL clubs, allowing him to test his market value ahead of his next deal.

Reportedly earning $1 million a season, the centre has been linked with the Perth Bears, who could pursue him as a marquee signing.

Gould said the Bulldogs "love" Burton, despite uncertainty about his future at the club.
