Kennedy's Cap Crunch: Sharks Facing Exit Waters?

LeagueNews.co | Jess Malloy

Cronulla Sharks star fullback William Kennedy is poised to exit the club at the end of the 2025 season due to a salary cap crisis.

Reports from zerotackle.com state that the Sharks have only about $300,000 available in their salary cap to pay him.

Kennedy is set to be off-contract at the end of the season and is one of the last key players the club has yet to re-sign.

To accommodate the arrival of Addin Fonua-Blake from the New Zealand Warriors, the Sharks have made several adjustments to their salary cap.

They have also secured new contracts for players like Thomas Hazelton, Cameron McInnes, Ronaldo Mulitalo, Briton Nikora, Braydon Trindall, and Teig Wilton, with some experiencing significant contract value upgrades.

This financial maneuvering has led to a significant strain on the Sharks' salary cap.

News Corp has reported that the Sharks are unable to provide a competitive offer for Kennedy, potentially rendering any proposal "offensive." As a result, with the club's limited budget and player retention challenges, Kennedy's future at the Sharks appears bleak as they head into the 2025 season.
