Kelly's four tries power PNG Orchids

Naomi Kelly

Naomi Kelly topped this year's Santos Cup try-scoring charts and helped Central Dabaris beat Port Moresby Vipers 16-12 in the grand final.

She carried that form into her third Test, scoring four tries as Papua New Guinea beat France 58-4 in Port Moresby to start their 2026 Women's Rugby League World Cup campaign.

The Orchids scored 12 tries to France's one, but the result was not a record: their 70-0 win over Brazil in the 2022 World Cup remains their biggest.

Kelly made 166 running metres, the most of any player, and added three line-breaks and three tackle breaks.

Props Elsie Albert and Essay Banu ran for 154 and 127 metres respectively, breaking 13 tackles between them.

PNG led 32-0 at halftime after scoring five tries in 23 minutes, with Emily Veivers kicking four conversions.

Fleur Ginn and PNG debutant Ivania Wong scored solo tries, while France's Manon Samarrra crossed after a rare PNG kicking error early in the second half.

Kelly, Tia Molo and Ginn each scored again before Kelly completed her hat-trick in the 51st minute and added a fourth three minutes later.

Eight Orchids have NRLW experience, and the side is coached by Craig Sandercock, who led Wests Tigers to their first finals campaign last month.

France next face the New Zealand Ferns in Christchurch on October 25; PNG host Fiji in Port Moresby next Saturday.
