Isabelle Kelly last graced the Gold Coast representing New South Wales when she played a pivotal role in bringing an era to an end.
Now, she aims to lead her team towards establishing a new legacy.
As captain of the Blues, she has an opportunity to achieve the historic feat of a 3-0 whitewash in women's State of Origin during their upcoming match next Thursday.
A victory would finalize consecutive series victories for her team, marking an impressive record of never losing an active match and positioning the Blues as a prominent force in women's Origin history.
However, Kelly, a veteran player on the team, still recalls the feeling of being overshadowed by sports legends.
A decade ago, during the last encounter between New South Wales and Queensland at Skilled Park, she was a 19-year-old winger who contributed to the Blues' 8-4 win in an earlier interstate challenge.
"I was in awe of all the Blues players but I didn't know any of the Queenslanders," Kelly reflected.
"I got in a scuffle with Ali Brigginshaw, but I didn't know who Ali Brigginshaw was. We laugh about it now."
This marked New South Wales's first victory over the Maroons since their inaugural meeting in 1999, and the players shed tears in celebration of an end to a 17-year winless streak.
Women's rugby league has significantly evolved since then, particularly after the interstate clash adopted the Origin name in 2018, but Kelly always cherishes the impact of that victory.
