The announcement of Dylan Edwards making his Kangaroos debut on the wing has sparked a division among NRL fans.

Many believe that Edwards should have been chosen as the fullback instead of James Tedesco.

Edwards, who plays as the fullback for the Panthers, will be playing in an unfamiliar position on Saturday against Samoa.

Initially, Edwards was overlooked when Mal Meninga announced his squad for the Pacific Championships.

However, a late call-up was given to Edwards due to a suspension handed down to Josh Addo-Carr.

Meninga revealed his team on Tuesday, with Edwards being one of four debutants.

Alongside Edwards on the wing will be Selwyn Cobbo, while Katoni Staggs and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow will form the new centre pairing.

While many fans were pleased to see Edwards get a start after his impressive performances for the Panthers over the past four years, some questioned why he was chosen on the wing instead of his preferred position of fullback.

Meninga has stood firm in his decision to stick with Tedesco, who has been the Kangaroos' captain for several years and led them to victory in the World Cup last year.

Despite having an inconsistent season for the Roosters, Tedesco was chosen over other young fullbacks such as Edwards, Reece Walsh, and Kalyn Ponga.

The debate around Edwards' position and Tedesco's selection has ignited discussions among NRL fans, with opinions divided on whether Meninga made the right decision.

As the Kangaroos take on Samoa, all eyes will be on Edwards as he aims to prove himself in his debut match for Australia.
