Judiciary gives verdict on Murray: Season ended

The verdict is in on Cameron Murray's high shot, and unfortunately for the South Sydney Rabbitohs lock forward, the outcome is not in his favor.

Despite his best efforts, Murray's bid for a downgrade at the NRL judiciary has been unsuccessful, which means he will not be making a return in the 2024 NRL season.

Murray was hit with a Grade 2 careless high tackle charge for his tackle on Newcastle Knights second-rower Tyson Frizell during their Round 25 clash on Saturday evening.

Taking the early guilty plea would have resulted in a two-match ban, but with the panel ruling against him, his suspension has been increased to three matches.

This decision effectively ends Murray's season, but there is a glimmer of hope for him as he may still be eligible to play in the opening round of the 2025 NRL season under the leadership of Wayne Bennett, who is set to take charge of the club for his second stint as head coach.

With players often called up for representative duties, the matches missed due to suspension can sometimes be counted towards their suspension period.

Murray can only hope that this will work in his favor as he looks ahead to the next season.
