Fetu Samoa returned to the Women's Rugby League World Cup for the first time since 2008, opening with a 40-0 defeat to Australia.
The Jillaroos scored seven tries to launch their bid for a fourth consecutive title, overcoming an ill-disciplined opening 10 minutes.
Jocelyn Kelleher earned player-of-the-match honours on her Test debut, recording two try assists and scoring 12 points.
"(Jocelyn's) kicking game was amazing, she took her opportunities and we couldn't have asked for more on debut for the Jillaroos in a World Cup," coach Jess Skinner said.
Australia led 28-0 at halftime after Jaime Chapman, Julia Robinson, Shaylee Bent, Keeley Nizza and Olivia Kernick scored.
Tamika Upton also contributed two try assists, while Keilee Joseph scored after the break.
Samoa pressed late, but prop Laikha Clarke was ruled to have dropped the ball over the line.
"The scoreline didn't reflect the effort as a team," Fetu Samoa coach Frank Puletua said.
Jessica Sergis scored in the final two minutes, extending the Jillaroos' almost three-year unbeaten run.
