Jake Averillo Eyes Super League Move

Dolphins star centre Jake Averillo is reportedly considering a move to the English Super League for the 2026 season and beyond.

Versatile in his positions, Averillo has been a key player for the Redcliffe-based Dolphins over the last two seasons, showcasing his skills at fullback, centre, and in the halves.

Although his contract runs until the end of 2026, a crowded backline at the Dolphins might prompt the former Canterbury Bulldogs junior to explore opportunities elsewhere, potentially even before his current deal concludes.

Reports suggest that the Perth Bears might target him for their inaugural 2027 season, alongside other Sydney clubs looking to bolster their backline. Additionally, Love Rugby League notes that several English clubs are interested in bringing him over a season early.

The Dolphins have not made any official comments regarding the situation. His departure a year early would surprise many in rugby league circles, especially considering his performance at the Dolphins, where he has consistently scored 11 tries each season and played in nearly every game.

As the 2026 season approaches, the Dolphins may face challenges with their backline depth, particularly following the signing of Selwyn Cobbo. Averillo will compete with Cobbo, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, and Trai Fuller for the number one jersey. If Fuller takes the fullback position, Tabuai-Fidow may shift to the centres, while Herbie Farnworth is expected to be a definite starter.
