Is Cobbo the Broncos' fullback future?

Broncos legend calls out brutal truth about Reece Walsh after Selwyn Cobbo stunner at fullback

Broncos legend Justin Hodges has raised concerns about Reece Walsh's future as Brisbane's fullback following Selwyn Cobbo's impressive performance in that role during Walsh's absence due to a knee injury.

Cobbo stepped in for Walsh and played a pivotal part in the 42-18 victory over the previously undefeated Bulldogs, contributing a try assist and four tackle breaks while running 151 meters from 18 carries.

Observers, including Maroons coach Billy Slater, have suggested that fullback may be Cobbo's ideal long-term position.

Many believe the Broncos performed better with Cobbo at fullback, contrasting Walsh's sometimes erratic playstyle.

Walsh's tendency to force plays has earned him criticism, whereas Cobbo's approach during the game was more measured yet impactful.

Hodges commented on Cobbo's fit for the role, stating, "I think that's (Cobbo playing fullback) what they need.

It's no disrespect to Reece, we love the way he plays but sometimes he can be a little bit too erratic.

I just don't think we need that.

We've got so many dangerous players in that Broncos outfit, I think Selwyn just did his job."

He emphasized the importance of allowing strong players like Adam Reynolds, Ben Hunt, and Billy Walters to lead the game while shifting structure to emphasize teamwork rather than individual creativity, saying, "He didn't try to get too creative...

When you have Reyno, Hunt, Billy Walters and the forward pack just let them do the work.

That's what Selwyn did."

With Reynolds' future at the club uncertain and discussions surrounding Hunt's potential transition to hooker, there are thoughts about moving Walsh into the halves for better team dynamics.

While Coach Slater recognizes Walsh's talent at fullback, he aligns with the consensus that Cobbo might be best positioned at fullback for the long run.
