The Match Review Committee has weighed in on J'maine Hopgood's contentious high tackle during the Parramatta Eels' recent defeat to the Melbourne Storm.
Hopgood faces a Grade 2 high tackle charge early in the game, specifically within the first minute.
This incident led to his temporary dismissal from the match, as he was found to have struck Storm forward Alec McDonald above the shoulders unlawfully.
By entering an early plea, Hopgood will serve a one-match suspension.
However, if he is deemed guilty by the panel, the Eels prop could end up missing two matches instead.
The Eels had a dismal beginning to the contest, ultimately falling 52-4 to the Storm, even though they initially scored the first try while Hopgood was sidelined.
Additionally, Eels fullback Isaiah Iongi was forced to undergo a head injury assessment in the 31st minute, despite the absence of a penalty for high contact against the Eels.
Moreover, the tackle involving Setfano Utoikamanu wasn't referred to the MRC, despite video evidence indicating that Utoikamanu had made head contact during the tackle.
