The Queensland Rugby League has announced the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons squad for Game I of the 2025 Women's State of Origin series.

The squad includes six players making their Maroons debut, adding fresh faces to the experienced core from last year's Origin series win.

Cowboys centre Jasmine Peters is one of the new additions, along with Georgia Hannaway, Hayley Maddick, Jada Ferguson, Rory Owen, and Tavarna Papalii.

Peters, Maddick, Hannaway, Ferguson, Owen, and Papalii have all earned their first call-up to Camp Maroon.

Hannaway has been solid at five-eighth for the Cronulla Sharks, while Maddick's performance at fullback during the 2024 season with the Broncos has been impressive.

Ferguson has shown consistent form during her time with the Broncos, and Owen and Papalii have been standout talents in the backline for the Eels and Roosters, respectively.

Four of the newcomers in the squad have come through the BMD Premiership, with Peters, Maddick, Hannaway, and Ferguson all participating in the 2024 competition with their respective teams.

According to the article on raiders.com.au, "Holyman named in Queensland Maroons Game I squad," the Queensland Maroons are looking to build on their success from last year with a mix of new talent and experienced players.

The inclusion of six debutants shows the growth and development of women's rugby league in the state.

The selection of players like Jasmine Peters and Hayley Maddick from the BMD Premiership highlights the importance of grassroots competitions in nurturing talent for the representative level.

With the game taking place at Suncorp Stadium on May 1, the Maroons squad is preparing to face off against New South Wales in what is sure to be an exciting match for fans of women's rugby league.
