Harry Grant open to Newcastle switch

Harry Grant re-signs until 2028

Newcastle could become an option for Harry Grant if he cannot agree a new contract with Melbourne, according to a News Corp report.

The Knights, 2026 grand finalists, may need to find room under a tight salary cap to pursue the hooker, who could seek close to seven figures.

Grant has a player option for 2028, but is expected to reject it, becoming a free agent from November 1.

He could instead sign a longer-term deal with the Storm, who remain confident of retaining him, potentially before November 1.

Melbourne negotiations may be delayed while Grant prepares for another World Cup campaign with the Kangaroos next week.

Newcastle have secured Phoenix Crossland as their long-term hooker and have Harrison Graham in their system, though the New Zealand representative could move to lock if Grant arrives.

The Knights' deals for Dylan Brown and Kalyn Ponga limit their cap flexibility, but Bradman Best's possible exit after 2027 could free funds. Reports suggest Best will re-sign; the club has also previously shown interest in Jack Bostock.

Grant has ruled out joining the Perth Bears, not wanting to block Tryan Wishart, who is expected to be their inaugural hooker.
