Zane Harrison's agent says reports of a $900,000 annual asking price are false, amid speculation about the Gold Coast Titans half's next contract.
"Those figures of $900,000 that were written to put pressure on the kid and ourselves are nothing but an utter lie," Sam Ayoub told The Courier Mail.
"I'm happy to go on the record because I've never seen those figures, let alone suggested those figures," Ayoub added.
Harrison, 20, has made 11 NRL appearances and is contracted to the Titans until the end of 2027.
He can test the market from November 1, with the Canterbury Bulldogs and PNG Chiefs reportedly interested.
Andrew Johns described Harrison as a "$400,000 or $500,000 player" at this stage of his career.
Ayoub said the speculation had caused distress for Harrison and his family, and criticised recently retired players for discussing claims he said lacked evidence.
"The fact Zane got hammered for an article that was based on a lie is disappointing," Ayoub said.
He added: "Zane went through a tough period at the time and we expressed that to the Titans, we will take that on-board moving forward."
Other Titans who can enter the market on November 1 include Moeaki Fotuaika and Oliver Pascoe.
PNG international Cooper Bai has a player option for 2028 and has also been strongly linked with the Chiefs.
