Brisbane Broncos star forward Payne Haas is uncertain for Saturday's match against the North Queensland Cowboys.

Haas, who has already missed several games this season due to injury and one due to a skin infection, is now dealing with an illness.

According to News Corp, he missed training on Wednesday, canceled a media commitment, and was isolated from his teammates to prevent the illness from spreading within the team.

Despite these concerns, Michael Maguire remains optimistic about Haas's ability to play on Saturday.

If he does take the field, it will be after a limited preparation. However, Haas has previously demonstrated that this does not hinder his performance, as highlighted by his impressive showing in State of Origin Game 1 despite minimal training beforehand.

The Broncos face less pressure than anticipated going into their Townsville trip, following two recent victories over the Dolphins and Newcastle Knights.

These wins, achieved without key players Ezra Mam and Adam Reynolds, have solidified the Broncos' position in the top eight. Continued success against the Cowboys and the Melbourne Storm in the final round could potential open pathways for a top-four finish or, at the very least, a home elimination final.
