Haas Commits: Haas joins Rabbitohs for Bennett reunion

Broncos prop Payne Haas.

'He shook Wayne's hand': Why Haas won't backflip on Souths deal.

Payne Haas' manager says the chance to reunite with Wayne Bennett drove the unexpected move to South Sydney and there is no risk of a reversal during the 10-day cooling-off period.

The announcement that Haas will leave Brisbane at season's end to join the Rabbitohs on a three-year contract shocked the rugby league world.

His agent, Ahmad Merhi, who brokered the agreement, poured cold water on suggestions that a rift with Broncos coach Michael Maguire or financial motives lay behind the switch.

Merhi made clear the decision is about seeking fresh tests and continued development rather than dissatisfaction with the Broncos.

"He's wired a little bit differently, he wants to be uncomfortable. He's not dissatisfied [at Brisbane], it's all about growth for him," Merhi said.

"Wayne Bennett was the key factor.

"He's achieved what he's wanted to achieve, he's always had the dream of winning a grand final.

He's been there for 10 years, it's more about challenging himself.
