Clint Gutherson Paves the Way for Scott Drinkwater's Potential Move
St George Illawarra Dragons fullback Clint Gutherson has reaffirmed his intention to recruit North Queensland Cowboys fullback Scott Drinkwater.
The pursuit of Drinkwater has been ongoing, with the Cowboys open to releasing him at the year's end, provided he secures a new team.
While they are not forcing him to leave before his contract expires, the Cowboys must manage their salary cap and have Jaxon Purdue and Tom Chester vying for the fullback position.
Considered one of the top attacking talents in the league, Drinkwater is reportedly in discussions with the Dragons about a lucrative deal that could reach seven figures annually.
Although currently sidelined due to an injury and having faced challenges in form, Gutherson expressed his desire for Drinkwater to join the team, sharing that he had sent him texts to communicate his feelings.
"I would 100 per cent welcome it. I've sent him a few text messages to try and get it across (the line)," Gutherson remarked.
"I don't care (that the club are chasing Drinkwater)."
"It doesn't bother me, I just want to play, I want to win."
"Winning is more important than where you play on the footy field and that's something I've lived by my whole career."
