The Gold Coast Titans have made a significant decision regarding the future of two-time Queensland outside back Phillip Sami as they prepare for the upcoming seasons.
Currently contracted for another year, Sami has been with the Titans since 2017, marking nearly 150 appearances and scoring 71 tries. Despite his contributions, he has struggled this season, crossing the line just 15 times. This downturn in performance comes as the Titans find themselves at the bottom of the NRL ladder, a stark contrast to his previous State of Origin tenure in 2020.
As reported by The Courier-Mail, Sami has been informed that the Titans will not extend his contract beyond the 2026 NRL season.
This decision comes as the 28-year-old has expressed interest in potentially joining the Perth Bears, who are set to enter the competition in 2027 and will be able to start negotiations with players from November.
"Any player off contract at the end of 2026 is going to be put in the papers linked with the Perth Bears being interested," Bears coach Mal Meninga stated in an interview with SEN 1170. "All these people are being listed that we're interested in, they're all off contract next year. It's not that hard to put a list together."
