In 1989, the Sharks faced off against the Brisbane Broncos in a mid-week play-off that would forever be etched in the memories of their fans.
But there was more to that year for the Sharks, as their very own Gavin Miller played a pivotal role in an iconic marketing campaign in Australian sport.
It was during this eventful week in '89 that John Quayle, the NSWRL General Manager, made his way to London, armed with football jerseys and leather Steeden balls.
His mission? To meet with none other than Tina Turner, the international pop sensation.
The NSWRL had acquired the rights to Turner's hit anthem 'What You Get Is What You See' and Miller, the unsung hero, shared the spotlight with her in this campaign.
Miller's journey to this point of destiny began the previous year, after his success in the World Cup and winning the Dally M award.
He returned to his English club, Hull Kingston Rovers, where he had already established himself as a force to be reckoned with, earning the prestigious Man of Steel title in 1986.
