In a move that has raised eyebrows among Rugby League enthusiasts, the Brisbane Broncos have announced the promotion of former Rabbitoh player Josiah Karapani to their Top 30 roster.
Karapani, who hails from the rugby stronghold of New Zealand, caught the attention of club officials during his stint with the Rabbitohs' Jersey Flegg Cup team.
His impressive performances led to an upgrade from a development contract to the coveted Top 30 roster for the upcoming season.
Although he is yet to make his NRL debut, Karapani proved his worth in the NSW Cup, scoring seven tries, providing three try assists, and displaying an average running distance of 123 meters per game.
However, Karapani decided to make the switch to the Broncos this season, agreeing to a train-and-trial contract.
Now that he is on the Top 30 roster, he faces stiff competition from Jesse Arthars, Corey Oates, Deine Mariner, Jordan Pereira, Delouise Hoeter, and Tristan Sailor for a place in the Broncos' back-line.
Karapani joins the dynamic trio of Reece Walsh, Kotoni Staggs, and Selwyn Cobbo, making the battle for playing time fierce and exciting.
